The traditions we carry.
Rawayat is our collection of classical silhouettes: farshi shalwars, ghararas and the shapes that came out of Awadh and Hyderabad and never really left. Wide pleating and trailing hems are cut in the traditional way.
We photographed this collection on London streets on purpose. These clothes came a long way to get here, and so did the women wearing them. Length matters on these silhouettes, so compare the trouser measurements with something you own and message us before ordering if you are unsure.

What is the Rawayat collection?
Rawayat means traditions. It is our line of classical silhouettes—farshi shalwars, ghararas and traditional three-piece sets—cut in the old shapes and photographed on London streets.
What is a farshi shalwar?
A farshi shalwar is a wide, floor-length shalwar with heavy pleating and a trailing hem, traditionally worn in the courts of Awadh and Hyderabad. It is dramatic, formal and best suited to weddings and large occasions.
What is the difference between a gharara and a farshi shalwar?
A gharara is fitted to the knee and then flares sharply into a wide, gathered leg with a joint at the knee. A farshi shalwar is wide throughout and pools on the floor. Both are traditional; the gharara is generally easier to move in.
Are Rawayat pieces suitable for taller or shorter women?
Length matters more on these silhouettes than on anything else we make. Compare the trouser length with something you already own and message us before ordering if you are under 5 ft 2 in or over 5 ft 8 in.
How should I store a farshi shalwar?
Store it folded, never hung, because the weight of the pleating can distort the waistband. Wrap it in muslin and keep it flat.
